I love my mobile lifestyle
It’s May 24th and I’m writing this blog post from an Air France flight, hence my musing on a mobile lifestyle. I’ll post it when I return.
I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from my blog writing, and I found that I miss it. I took a break because, good news, my coaching practice is nearly full. I’m working with wonderful people that are motivated, committed and beautifully human. And, interestingly upon reflection, I was writing my blog for others. When I wasn’t hearing any feedback, I began speculating. I thought I simply must suck at writing, that I have nothing interesting to share (which I know isn’t true), people are too busy or video has supplanted the written word. Then, while reading the book, High-Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard, he shared that high performing people ‘embrace the suck’. I loved hearing that. So, while once a week was ambitious and I successfully did that for a full year, I’ll be graduating to once, maybe twice per month. And, I’m going to embrace the suck and yes, ‘‘figure this out’ or not. I just like writing, period. If you like it too, great, and if not, well that’s fine too. Find content that you enjoy.
Context: Mobile Magic at 50
So back to this Air France flight. I’m en route to Athens Greece. I turned 50 years old this year. A vow was made to make it a year of celebrating. Hell, this may be a new standard, we will see… I have never been to Greece, always wanted to go. Never been on a cruise, always wanted to try it. Sidebar Judge Ito, there is something really magical about turning 50. It’s like my ‘inside voice’ started screaming, IF NOT NOW THEN WHEN DeLuca? I’ve been investing and saving…for what exactly, well this!? So, when one of my dearest friends reached out to discuss the ‘birthday’ year, she actually had an opportunity for me. The trip came together quickly, her boyfriend had a change in travel plans/commitments, and she asked would I like to… go on a cruise through the Greek Islands? Hmmm, YES, please! I think I said ‘yes’ before she even finished telling me what the plan was. Wait for it… THEN, spend some time on the Amalfi coast, in Italy. Hello, DeLuca, Ms. Italiana?! Again, something on the bucket list. I’m giddy.
Wanna work from Italy?
Now here’s what‘s really cool… I can work from anywhere. My clients are flexible and are OK working with my schedule. They know that I will have some times where projects, leadership off-sites, speaking engagements, life or family needs will take precedence. They get me! Additionally, I’m the boss. I have unlimited PTO (personal time off). Hey, I’m also very aware if mama doesn’t work, mama doesn’t eat (that’s until my product offering expands; stay tuned). AND at the same time, mama needs to feed her soul. Hence, being on an Air France flight en route to Athens Greece. I’m fortunate, excited and ready to have a true vacation! It’s the first one in over 3 years. It’s time! Opa. 🙂 QUESTION: If you could work from anywhere tomorrow, where would that be?
We only have a finite amount of time on this planet, and you can choose how to spend that time.
